Meet the Staff

Pastor of Prayer and Care
Boyd Smith
I came to First Baptist Church as the minister to students and activities in 1994. After serving in this capacity for nearly 17 years, I became the pastor of prayer and care, a new position at FBC.
I spend much of my time at the hospital, nursing homes, retirement centers, and the homes of the elderly in Murray. I know what it’s like to be sick, as I have experienced the healing touch of God as well. I believe in the power of prayer and I keep a prayer journal of the requests that people give me. My wife Wanda and I have been happily married for over 35 years.

Worship Leader
Mike Rose
I became interested in music while talking piano, voice, and cello lessons each week as my father studied music at Southern Seminary.
I have a music education degree from Austin Peay, a church music degree from Kentucky Wesleyan College, and a church music master's from Southern Seminary. Later in life, I felt a calling to public education and returned to school for a degree in curriculum and instruction. I am also certified as a principal in the state of Tennessee. I've also held church positions in Hopkinsville from 1981-1986 and Cadiz from 1986-2015. I joined FBC in June of 2016.
I live on Lake Barkley with my two dogs: Bullet and Phyllis.

Church Librarian
Tina Myers
I feel very blessed to have the opportunity to serve as the librarian at FBC! I have developed a love for our library after working for several years as a volunteer on Sunday mornings and in the summer. I am amazed at all of the different kinds of books and other resources our library has to offer and look forward to sharing them with our church and community.
I am a graduate of Murray State University with degrees in elementary education and special education. I retired in May of 2020 from Marshall County Schools where I worked as a special education teacher at South Marshall Middle School.
My husband, Steve, and I live in Hazel with our two cats. We enjoy traveling, trying new restaurants, and cheering on the Tennessee Titans.

Mother's Day Out Director
Lauren Dunlap
I joined the church as the Mother’s Day Out director in 2017. I have 11 years of experience in the field of mental health counseling as a licensed clinical social worker. I love working with children and have specialized in birth to 5 years of age at my previous employer. I enjoy watching children grow and learn. I have seen the positive influence Mother’s Day Out has had on my own children. I welcome open two-way communication with parents to jointly celebrate parenting joys and tackle challenging struggles.
I am married to Zach and have two daughters, Emilia and Ruby. I also have one dog, Maye. In my spare time, I enjoy baking, reading, exercising, and spending time with my family and friends.
