Church Clean-up and Fish Fry Big Success!

The first church clean-up day and fish fry since 2008 was held Saturday, April 20, with a multitude of people showing up Saturday morning to perform numerous indoor and outdoor cleaning jobs around the facilities. Following the clean-up, several hundred members and guest showed up for a fish fry in the Felllowship Hall, catered by Holmes Restaurant.

A couple of photos from the fish fry are presented below, with more available by clicking below:

FAMILY TRIP PLANNED TO CHICAGO FOR MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND!!

Pastor Jon Pennington of Chicagoland Community Church has asked that we bring a group of perhaps 20 or so children, youth, and adults to work at the Belmont-Sheffield Music Festival, May 24– 27. We would leave Murray around 9 a.m. on Friday, eat lunch on the road, and arrive at CCC around 5 p.m. We would then get settled in and walk over to Clark Street (Wrigley Field is only 6 blocks away!) and eat dinner at one of the numerous restaurants available there. On Saturday morning we would get up, have breakfast (Dunkin Doughnuts is a favorite!), and then set up our booth at the festival. We would operate the booth the rest of the day, giving away cotton candy, snow cones, or whatever and engaging people in conversations about Christ as possible and appropriate. It only takes 3-5 people at a time (so we take turns) to operate the booth, so the rest of our group could be sightseeing, doing odd jobs back at the church, going to the YMCA for showers, or whatever. We would fit dinner around shifts at the festival on Saturday night. On Sunday we would get up and have breakfast on Clark Street, operate the booth, attend 11 a.m. worship service (those not working the booth). CCC has a 4 p.m. service as well, followed by a light meal (usually sandwiches that we will help prepare!) for the many poor and homeless of the neighborhood. We would then spend Sunday night at the church and leave for Murray after breakfast on Monday (Memorial Day), arriving back at FBC somewere around 6 p.m.

EVERYONE IS INVITED TO GO ON THIS TRIP!!! Moms and/or dads with their children of any age, high school kids, college students, adults with or without children, senior adults--ANYONE interested in spending a few days in Chicago doing the Lord's work and having a great time! We will be taking the 24-passenger bus, so we hope to have close to that number going. The only cost for the trip is your food expenses, as we stay at the church (bring your sleeping bag, air mattress, blowup bed, etc.). If you are interested in going, please email Ken Purcell at ken.purcell47@gmail.com to sign up, or you may sign up in your Sunday school class or in the church office. Please make plans to join us and sign up soon, as the maximum for the trip is the number that fit in the bus!

FBC-Murray to Participate in Book+ Project

Book+ is a book drive to supply 1,000 books for the Ithemba School library in Jeffreys Bay, South Africa. The Ithemba School serves over 200 children. The seven teachers consistently prepare their students well, and those kids enter school at the top of their classes. In addition to education, the students also receive meals, medical care, and tutoring. By providing books we are helping the school continue to provide a high-quality and engaging educational experience for all these kids.

To solve this problem we need 1,000 books for ages 3 through 7. And we need to raise $1,000 to ship the books. Please, request a $1 donation for each book. What kind of books? The books can be used but in good condition; or they can be new books. Donate books you’d like to sit and read with your kids, or books that will encourage kids to practice their reading. (Yes, they learn English!)
