Mat 220ch - Awana/RA’s/GA’s – These weekly club meetings with Bible centered handbooks have Scripture memory, small-group interaction, mission teachings, team oriented games, awards and more.  Its purpose is to prepare 3 year olds through 6th graders to know, love and serve Christ. It’s an exciting approach to teaching God’s Word, combining learning with irresistible fun to produce lifelong results in churched and unchurched kids alike.  Meetings on Sunday evenings, 5-7 pm.  Contact Huong Kelly at 767-0783 or seanandhuong@bellsouth.net  (Children’s Class)

 Mat 261ch – Adventure Story Hours – This class will continue reading Sigmund Brouwer's out-of-print "Winds of Light" series.  There will be a  "catch up" day Tuesday, January 15 for those who missed the first two books and would like to join us now.  We have 4 more books to cover in      the  next 12 months, so it's not too late to join. This historical fiction selection is an exciting story of medieval intrigue and a journey of faith and fellowship that will appeal to most children 8-13 years old.  Most weeks we'll read aloud and occasionally do hands-on history activities. Min 226– He Speaks to Me –  Participants in this study by Priscilla Shirer will discover how God spoke to Samuel, Samuel’s response and how He speaks to believers today.  By listening to God’s voice and obeying Him, women will experience spiritual growth, Christian discipline, and the desire to serve.  This group will follow-up with another study by Priscilla Shirer called Discerning the Voice of God.  Beginning January 29,

Min 228– Stepping Up : A Journey Through the Psalms of Ascent -  Traveling pilgrims sang the psalms of ascent (Psalms 120-134) both on the way to the great festivals of the Jews and as key elements of the worship at those festivals. As students interact with Beth Moore and the Scriptures in new ways, they will gain a new appreciation for the life of faith as a journey to greater fellowship with and worship of God.  This group will follow-up with the study Lord, Teach Me to Pray by Kay Arthur.  Beginning January 9, 9:15 am, Room AE310.  Contact Jean Johnston at 227-5849 or jeanj1931@mchsi.com    (Women’s Class)

Mat 221ch – Kids for Christ – Third through sixth graders are invited to fellowship together for encouragement, accountability and prayers as they learn to apply biblical principles in everyday life.  Meets last Wednesday of each month only. Mat 241 - Common Ground – All men in the community are invited to attend this nondenominational accountability and prayer group. Weekly devotionals by participants. Min 220.2 – The Peacemaker  - Serious, divisive conflict is everywhere – within families, in the church, and out in the world.  In this study Ken Sande of Peacemaker Ministries presents a comprehensive and practical theology for conflict resolution designed to bring about not only a cease-fire but also unity and harmony.  Min 224 – Lord, Teach Me to PrayThis new DVD-teaching series directs believers to focus on The Lord’s Prayer and how to pray according to God’s will and purpose.  This study by the founder of Precept Ministries, Kay Arthur, provides intensely practical insights to help readers know how to pray, what to pray, and what to expect when they pray.  After finishing this 5 session study, the group will then decide on another study for the remainder of the semester.  Beginning January 18, 10am – 12 noon, 1539 Oxford Dr.  Contact Jennifer Wann at 753-0175 or jwann@murray-ky.net.  Childcare available at First Baptist Church.

 

Seminars & Events

Min 341 - Woman to Woman Mentoring Orientation Coffee #4 –  Based on Titus 2:3-5, this ministry is open to women of all ages attending FBC. Come join us for lunch and find out how you can be a part of a mentor/mentee relationship. Sunday, January 27, 12:15 at the home of Patsy Miller, 2104 Creekwood Dr.  Also, please reserve Monday, February 4, 6-9 pm on your calendar. (Details to follow.)

 

He's Alive!--A Resurrection Celebration - Children will hear an age-appropriate retelling of the crucifixion and resurrection, with attention on the why of the cross and the wonder of the gift of eternal life God offers us through Christ's obedient sacrifice.   We will enjoy a Christian adaptation of the traditional Easter Egg Hunt, and each child will make a simple Resurrection Day craft.  Refreshments will be served. Two classes. Children ages 3-5, Wednesday, March 12, 10:00 am-11:00 am, FBC Library.  (Adults welcome to stay and participate/observe.)   School-ages K-5th Grade, Wednesday, March 12, 3:30-4:45.  (Adult craft helpers especially welcome and appreciated.)

 DiscipleNow Weekend – Youth are invited to get basic training and learn what it means to be a soldier (follower) of Christ.  This focused weekend will begin with an introduction banquet on Thursday evening, February 28.   Students will then be divided into small groups and will stay in the homes of FBC host families for the weekend of February 29 – March 1.  Mat 261ch - Entomology Day  – Homeschoolers, in grades one through six, and their parents are invited to the fifth annual Entomology Day.  All ages are welcome.  Nearly identical classes about aquatic insects will Wednesday, April 23, at 10 am and 1 pm.  Make reservations in the First Baptist Library, or email Gary and Roberta Jones at bertalu42@yahoo.com.  Each session is limited to 30 people.

 Independent Studies

  Mat 251 – Parent Mentoring  Communication, discipline, love, anger, forgiveness and parenting skills.  Call Sarah Hussung at 753-1923 to talk one on one about your child or to set up an appointment to meet with her.  Sarah Hussung has an Elementary Education Degree, Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, 25 years experience teaching preschool, and also experience teaching parenting classes.

Mat 252 - Financial Guidance Mentoring – Using the Bible as a reference along with things he has read and studied from Larry Burkett and Dave Ramsey, Randy Adams is willing to talk with people who are struggling with debt.  A lot of what he suggests is from his own personal experience and has worked for his own family.  He would prefer to work one on one or with a couple.  All information will be kept confidential.  Contact Randy Adams at 293-6482 or rcadams@wk.net  to arrange a time to meet.

 

Mat 223 – Independent Study  Christians desiring to grow in Christ, but who are unable to meet with a group at any of the times classes are offered, may choose a subject and let God help you grow as you use FBC Library resources.
