The Transitional Focus Team is hosting a Listen Up! Workshop on Sunday, July 13, 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. We will not have our usual worship service that Sunday evening. Pastor Henry will be leading us in a fun time of learning ten listening principles and five listening skills. You will appreciate the opportunity to use what you learn to listen more effectively to your spouse, children, grandchildren, church members, co-workers, and other family and friends. Call the church office by Monday, July 7 to register for this special event so we can know how to set up the meeting room, provide child care, and have adequate refreshments.

I have always enjoyed reading history about the forming of our nation. This week we celebrate the 232nd anniversary of our Declaration of Independence. But the process of actually winning our political freedom, overcoming sharp divisions among our national leaders, and establishing a democratic government took decades. Eighty-five years later we had a brutal civil war with a very difficult aftermath. Freedom and unity did not come easily in our nation. Iraq and other nations are currently faced with the challenge of forming free and democratic nations. When we remember our own heritage, we will be more patient with their pursuit of the freedoms we enjoy.
As important as political freedom is, even more crucial is the spiritual freedom provided by Jesus Christ for us and all peoples of the world. Jesus said of Himself, “If the Son sets you free, you really will be free” (John 8:36, HCSB). Paul wrote, “Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom” (2 Cor. 3:17). Peter both challenged us and warned us when he wrote, “As God’s slaves, live as free people, but don’t use your freedom as a way to conceal evil” (1 Pet. 2:16).
This Fourth of July as you celebrate your freedom as an American, evaluate how you are both celebrating and sharing your spiritual freedom.
Remember to pray for those you have chosen to serve on our church’s Pastor Search Committee. The process of choosing that committee is an example of both the spiritual and political freedom we enjoy.
Your pastor and friend in Christ,
Henry Webb

Pray for all the youth and adults who are attending Big Stuf Camp in
Panama City, Florida this week.

The book, Student Discovery Bible: A Journey Through God’s Word, has been given in memory of Mrs. Mary Louise McGee, sister of Mrs. Reva Shelton.
The book, The New Temple and the Second Coming by Grant R. Jeffrey, has been given in memory of Mrs. Dorothy Dunn, sister of Mrs. Jo Burkeen.

A note from Ms. Josie:
Hi, it’s Ms. Josie. I just wanted to say I was very pleased with the turn out for the first Bible/Movie study. We had about 13 children/preschool/toddlers present. We learned more about Noah and the Ark. On the second night of meeting we learned more about The Good Samaritan. We are also singing songs and practicing how to “talk to God” which some of us also call praying. We will NOT meet on Sunday, July 6 or July 13. We will meet again on Sunday, July 20.
Don’t forget Worship/Signing on Wednesday nights 6:30-7:15 in the 2nd floor Conference room. We have had 7 children who are learning the chorus and solos but we would love to make room for more. I hope everyone has a happy and safe Fourth of July.
Come to Children in Action on Sunday, July 6, following the Children’s Sermon during the early worship service and learn about "Wee Bonnie Scotland" and its black-face sheep, highland games and golf! See you there!
Mission Friends will also meet this Sunday!
